Traditional Hummus

I just made hummus. It took me 5 minutes.  I can’t believe I pay $4 at TJ’s to buy it!! This recipe makes about 1.5 cups of hummus.

  • 1 15 oz. can of garbanzo beans
  • 2-3 cloves of Garlic
  • 1-2 tbsp of Tahnini
  • 2-5 tbsp of Lemon Juice
  • ~3 tbsp Olive Oil
  • Salt

1. Put beans (with a little bit of their liquid), garlic, and 2 tbsp lemon juice in a food processor.  Process until creamy-ish.
2.  Add Tahini and ~ 1 tbsp olive oil and process until incorporated.  Taste and add more lemon juice and olive oil until you are satisfied with the taste. Add salt at the end. I like it with the juice of a whole lemon and not much tahini, but everyone is different.

What goes with Hummus?

Pita bread or pita chips, crudite, bread sticks, pretzels, etc.  It’s also used as spread on bagels and sandwiches (I’ve heard, personally I think it’s gross on sandwiches).  It’s prefect for parties since it’s a good dip, it’s cheap to make, and it’s fairly well known.
